AN E~EHGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
AMENDING SECTION 11.04.763 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT ON AUBURN STREET.
~HEHEAS, with the opening of school and the addition of
the new Highland High School, it is anticipated that there will be
considerable traffic using Auburn Street which is the only route to
three schools; namely, Eissler, Chipman Junior High, and the new
Highland High School, and
~EP~EAS, at the present time Auburn Street from Columbus
Avenue east to the new high school is now a 65 miles per hour zone,
and
WHEHEAS, the absence of a prima facie speed limit creates
a hazard to life, property, and the safety of the school children
traversing Auburn Street.
NOW, THEHEFOHE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Section 11.04.763 of the Municipal Code is amended
to read as follows:
11.04.763 Speed Limit on Auburn Street. (a) A prima facie
speed limit of 35 miles per hour is hereby determined and declared
to be the prima facie speed at which vehicles may travel on Auburn
Street east from Columbus Avenue to the easterly city limits.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance is declared to be an emergency ordinance
pursuant to Section 24 of the Charter of the City of Bakersfield
and shall become effective immediately upon its passage.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance
was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at
a regular meeting thereof held on the 14th day of September, 1970,
by the following vote:
