AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTION 17.56.010
OF CHAPTER 17.56 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
PROVIDING FOR AUTOMOBILE OFF-STREET PARKING
REQUIREMENTS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Section 17.56.010 of Chapter 17.56 of the Municipal
Code of the City of Bakersfield is hereby amended to read as follows:
17.56.010 Off-Street Parking Facilities Required.
(a) For each new dwelling, new multiple building, new business
or new industrial establishment or other new structure, or for a
change in the permitted use of an existing structure (where the
changed use would, under Section 17.56.020, require fifty per cent
(50%) or more parking facilities than was required under such section
for the previous use) there shall be provided and maintained off-street
parking facilities to accomodate the motor vehicles required by the
use of the property or structure as set forth in this Chapter. Such
standards shall also be complied with when an existing building is
altered or enlarged by the addition of dwelling units or where the
use is intensified by the additional use of floor space, seating
capacity, seats, beds or other units. Off-street automobile parking
space being maintained in connection with any existing structures
shall be maintained so long as said structure remains unless an
equivalent substitute number of such spaces are provided and there-
after maintained conforming to the requirements of this Chapter. The
minimum individual parking space size_shall be 8~ feet by 20 feet,
including adequate space for ingress and egress.
(b) When after computing the number of parking spaces for a
structure, there appears a fractional requirement of ~ or more of a
parking space, one (1) full additional parking space shall be
required. If after such computation, the fractional requirement
for a given number of units is less than ~ of a parking space, no
additional space shall be required for that fractional parking
space.
(c) Ail parking for residential uses shall be on the same
lot. Parking for all other uses Shall be within 500 feet of subject
property.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 14th day of February, 1972, by the
following vote:
