AN ORDINANCE~ OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AMENDING PARAGRAPH 4 OF AND
ADDING PARAGRAPH 5 TO SECTION 8.48.030 AND
AMENDING SUBSECTION (b) OF SECTION 8.48.090
OF CHAPTER 8.48 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE, CON-
CERNING REFUSE COLLECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as 'follows:
SECTION 1.
That Paragraph 4 of Section 8.48.030 of Chapter 8.48 of
the Municipal Code of the City of Bakersfield is hereby amended to
read as follows:
4. Industries in the City shall be responsible for the proper
collection and removal of industrial waste from their premises, except
as stated in paragraph 5 of this section. The Director of Public Works
shall determine what is and what is not industrial waste.
SECTION 2.
That paragraph 5 is hereby added to Section 8.48.030 of
Chapter 8.48 of the Municipal Code of the City of Bakersfield, to
read as follows:
5. Upon request, the City may, but need not, collect and remove
industrial waste, building materials, and any other matter not provided
for herein, from premises using a receptacle approved by the Director
of Public Works. When the City performs such service the charges shall
be the same as provided in paragraph 2 of this section.
SECTION 3.
That subsection (b) of Section 8.48.090 of Chapter 8.48
of the Municipal Code of the City of Bakersfield is hereby amended
to read as follows:
(b) The Director of Finance may require billings to be paid
quarterly in advance; provided that the first quarterly charges shall
be prorated for the unexpired number of months or,major part thereof
in such quarter. Any person who is responsible for the payment of any
charges imposed under this chapter shall be entitled to a ten per cent
(10%) discount upon an advance payment of one full year's charges.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall become effective thirty days from and
after the date of its passage.

and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 8th day of May, 1972, by the' following
