AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AMENDING CHAPTER 3.18 OF
THE MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION 3.18.200(k).
WHEREAS, a work stoppage has ensued in one of the
departments of the City, and
WHEREAS, under applicable ordinances, the employees in-
volved in the work stoppage were deemed discharged, and
WHEREAS, the work stoppage created a seriOus health
hazard to the co~Lm~unity, and
WHEREAS, agreement has been reached to return the employees
to their employment, and
WHEREAS, in order for them to return to employment, it
is necessary that the accumulated sick leave be restored to them.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 3.18.200 of the~Municipal Code is amended by
adding Section 3.18.200(k) to read as follows:
3.18.200(k) Retention of Accumulated Sick Leave on Rehiring.
Whenever any City employee is rehired to City employment and his
break in City service does not exceed five working days, the City
Council may credit him with the accumulated sick leave he had
earned prior to his separation from City employment.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance is an emergency ordinance providing for
the daily operation of a department and is effective upon adoption.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Emergency Ordinance
was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at
a special meeting thereof held on the 31st day of July, 1972, by
the following vote:
