HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD NO 2123 ORDINANCE NO. 2123 NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD PROVIDING FOR THE WORKING · OF PRISONERS CONFINED IN THE COUNTY JAIL. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: SECTION 1. Any or all male prisoners confined in the County 3ail under judgment of conviction of misdemeanor or as probationers, shall be compelled to labor upon the public works, public grounds, roads, streets, alleys, highways or public buildings or in such other places as may be deemed advisable in the County of Kern for the benefit of the City of Bakersfield. Provided that no prisoner shall be compelled to so labor who may be physically unable to do so, or whose safekeeping may be endangered thereby~ The question of exemption from such labor for either cause mentioned to be deter- mined by the Sheriff of the County of Kern. Labor upon the public works, or public grounds as used in this section shall include all work authorized under Section 4017 of the California Penal Code. SECTION 2. The labor herein provided for shall be provided at such places and in such manner as the Chief of Police and the City Council from time to time direct. SECTION 3. No prisoner shall receive any compensation for his labor under this ordinance. SECTION 4.
