AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTION 7.40.140 OF
CHAPTER 7.40 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERN-
ING PUBLIC DANCES AND DANCE HALLS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Section 7.40.140 of Chapter 7.40 of the Municipal
Code of the City of Bakersfield is hereby amended to read as follows:
7.40.140 Responsibility For Good Order. It shall be the
responsibility of the permittee to maintain peace and good order
at all public dances. The Police Chief is hereby authorized to
suspend the permit provided for in this chapter and close the public
dance for a period of not more than two weeks whenever he deter-
mines that the permittee has failed to maintain peace and good order
and that an emergency exists as a result of such failure. For the
purpose of maintaining peace and good order at public dances, the
permittee may hire private patrol operators or security guards who
are licensed by the State of California.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance shall become effective thirty days from
and after the date of its adoption.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 1Sth daY of April, 1974, by the follow-
ing vote:
