RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF OBTAINING
SURPLUS STATE FUNDING TOWARD
COMPLETION OF THE KERN RIVER
PARKWAY PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Kern River Parkway is an adopted project end part of the City of
Bakersfield-County of Kern General Plan; end
WHEREAS, since 1988, the City of Bakersfield has been working with Parkway
participents in a collaborative effort to complete the Kern River Parkway; and
WHEREAS, the Kern River Parkway project is open end available to the public end is a
major regional destination facility for the use and enjoyment of the citizens of Bakersfield end
the Sen Joaquin Valley; end
WHEREAS, the Kern River Parkway includes habitat restoration areas, green belts,
bicycle pathways, equestrian trails, streamside family recreational areas, parking end staging
areas, day use parks, and natural environmental studies grounds; end
WHEREAS, the completion of the Kern River Parkway would enhance end preserve the
Kern River waterway and adjacent lands for dedicated public use for all time; end
WHEREAS, the strength of the California economy has produced a state budget surplus
for the 1998-99 fiscal year making funds available for community projects such as the Kern
River Parkway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as
follows:
SECTION 1
To support California state legislators requests to the Governor for funding to complete
the Kern River Parkway project.
SECTION 2
The City Clerk shall certify the adoption of this Resolution end send a certified copy to
Governor Pete Wilson, Senator Jim Costa, Senator Kenneth Maddy, Assembly Representative
Roy Ashburn and Assembly Representative Robert Prenter
