NEW SERIES
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTIONS 17.14.060, 17.16.060
and 17.18.060 OF THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO MINIMUM REAR YARDS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 17.14.060 of the Bakersfield Municipal[ Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
17.14.060 Rear yard.
There shall be a rear yard upon each lot in an R-2 zone
behind every main building of not less than twenty-five feet or
twenty percent of the depth of the lot, whichever is less; pro-
vided, however--except where the rear property line separates a
lot in an R-2 zone from an adjacent lot zoned R-l, R-S, R-S-1A,
MH or a PUD project of single-family character with private rear
and/or side yards--the rear yard may be reduced to five feet if
not more than fifty percent of the lot is covered by buildings or
structures. Whenever the rear property line separates the lot
from a lot described in the above exception, the rear yard shall
be not less than ten feet for the first story of any building and
twenty-five feet for any second and additional stories.
SECTION 2.
Section 17.16.060 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
17.16.060 Rear yard.
There shall be a rear yard upon each lot in an R-3 zone
behind every main building of not less than fifteen feet; pro-
vided however--except where the rear property line separates a
lot in an R-3 zone from an adjacent lot zoned R-l, R-S, R-S-iA,
MH or a PUD project of single family character with private rear
and/or side yards--the rear yard may be reduced to five feet if
not more than fifty-five percent of the lot is covered by build-
ings or structures. Whenever the rear property line separates
the lot from a lot described in the above exception, the rear
yard shall be not less than ten feet for the first story and
twenty-five feet for any second and additional stories.
SECTION 3.
Section 17.18.060 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
17.18.060 Rear yard.
There shall be a rear yard upon each lot in an R-4 zone
behind every main building of not less than fifteen feet; pro-
vided, however--except where the rear property line separates a
lot in an R-4 zone from an adjacent lot zoned R-l, R-S, R-S-1A,
MH, or a PUD project of single-family character with private rear
and/or side yards--the rear yard may be reduced to five feet if
not more than sixty percent of the lot is covered by buildings or
structures. Whenever the rear property line separates the lot
from a lot described in the above exception, the rear yard shall
be not less than ten feet for the first story and twenty-five
feet for any second and additional stories.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall be posted in accordance with the
city charter provisions and shall become effective thirty (30)
days from and after the date of its passage.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regu-
lar meeting thereof held on the 26th day of June , 198__5, by
