approval of a City fire station in the
area of Buena Vista Road and White
Lane.
McDermott suggested the Fire Services
Ad Hoc Committee make it a priority to
look at the next new station as being
in Northwest Bakersfield.

13. COUNCILSTATEMENTS
McDermott expressed his pleasure on Council
goals and policies. and requested sta:ff to
expedite the plans for the Convention
Center expansion.
ACTION TAKEN
smith requested staff look at the
possibility of a crossing guard at Colonel
Nichols School; and advise her of the
possibility of a signal at LaCosta by
Eissler School on Auburn.
Rowles thanked staff for the rapid response
regarding additional lighting at Yokuts
Park; and requested staff reallocate funds
to implement the project.
Rowles directed Public Works and Economic
and Community Development to revisit the
issue of sewer facilities, including fire
hydrants, in the area north of Stockdale
Highway between North Stine and North
McDonald Way and respond back by memo with
options.
Sullivan expressed her pleasure with the
Council goals and Policies and graffiti
program progress; and requested Community
Development Department explore the
possibilities of a program, beginning with
school children and fast food chains,
regarding litter.
DeMond suggested contacting Leadership
Bakersfield regarding the litter program.
DeMond suggested staff look at how the
crossing guard program is being approached
and then how it is being funded.
DeMond remarked that the Tree Foundation is
looking at Manor and Denise for the
Memorial Grove; and suggested the Tree
Foundation be considered for Yokuts Park
trees.
DeMond advised that the ADA curbs at
Oak/Truxtun are also being used by cars.
