AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD ADDING CHAPTER 6.20 TO
THE BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL CODE RELATIVE TO
MAIMIN(;, INJURING OR KILLING OF ANIMALS.
WHEREAS, there is s trend to maim, injure or kill
animals in public view in theatrical and musical performances;
and
WHEREAS, the public display of the maiming, injuring or
killing of animals as entertainment ~.s not. conducive to the
public health and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Jt is necessary to adopt an emerqency ordinance
to protect the p~iblic health and welfare from the above-described
activity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield as follows:
SECTION 1.
That Chapter 6.20 ~s hereby added to the Municipal Code
of the City of Bakersfield to read as follows:

No person shall knowingly, nor shall any device, machine
contrivance be used to, maim,. injure or kill any animal,
fowl, during any live theatrical or musical performance

6.20.020 Violation - Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation
violating any of the provisions of this Chapter shall be deemed
guilty of a misd~meanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be
punished by a fine of not more than Five ~{undred Dollars ($500.00)
or by imprisonment in the County Jail for a period not exceeding
six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
6.20.030 Severance Clause. If any section, sentence, clause
or phrase of this ordinance ~s for any reason held to be uncon-
stitutional, such decision shall not affect the validity of the
remaining sections,

SECTION 2.
This ordinance is an emergency ordinance within the
