ORDINANCE NO. 2459
NEW SERIES
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTIONS 17.56.010 AND
17.56.020 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE, CONCERNING
OFF-STREET PARKING REQUIREMENTS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
That Subsection
Chapter
of
Bakersfield, as follows:
(g) Not more than twenty percent of

(g) is hereby added to Section 17.56.010
17.56 of Title 17 of the Municipal Code of the City of
the required spaces
in items (2) through
(5) of Section 17.56.020, may be designed either as compact stalls
to accommodate compact cars or for tandem parking, or in any com-
bination thereof. Every space designed to accommodate compact cars
shall be clearly marked as a compact stall. Parking space require-
ments shall be in accordance with the criteria established by the
Eno Foundation.
That Subsection
of Chapter 17.56 of Title
Bakersfield, as follows:
SECTION 2.
(h) is hereby added to Section 17.56.010
17 of the Municipal Code of the City of
(h) Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 17.56.100,
the area of a required front yard in an R-2, R-3 or R-4 Zone may be
encroached to the extent of eight and one-half (8-1/2) feet for
off-street parking required by this chapter, subject to the following
limitations and conditions:
(1) The encroachment into the required setback will
not be allowed in the area between buildings and front property line.
(2) The prohibition against backing onto streets
contained in Section 17.56.030 shall apply.
(3) On corner lots or lots at intersecting streets,
no such encroachment is permitted in a 60-foot corner cut-off area
as measured along the intersecting street curb lines extended.
(4) The landscaping or wall requirements contained
in Section 17.40.020(b) shall apply. Any such landscaping or wall
in the encroached area, as well as in the 60-foot corner cut-off
area, must be approved by the Traffic Engineer.
SECTION 3.
That Subsection
of Chapter 17.56 of Title
Bakersfield, as follows:
(i) Required guest parking
as specified in items (2) through (5)
(i) is hereby added to Section 17.56.010

provided by off-street parking and shall not be provided in the
parking lanes within public streets adjacent to the affected property.
SECTION 4.
That the Bakersfield Municipal Code is hereby amended by
repealing items (1) through (7) of Section 17.56.020 of Chapter
17.56 of Title 17, and substituting in lieu thereof new items (1)
through (5) as follows:
17.56.020 Schedule of Off-Street Parking Requirements. Off-
street parking facilities shall be provided and maintained for the
following specified uses or facilities, as follows:

SECTION 5.
That the Bakersfield Municipal Code is hereby amended by
renumbering items (8) through (23) of Section 17.56.020 to items
(6) through (21) and by renumbering items 23(a) through (31) of
said section to items (22) through (30).
SECTION 6.
This ordinance shall become effective thirty days from
and after the date of its passage.
