194-07
A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A MILITARY LEAVE POLICY
WHEREAS, in the wake of September 11 th terrorist attack on America and
the war in Iraq, City employees have been called to active duty; and
WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Bakersfield, Section 12, authorizes
the City Council to provide for salaries and related benefits for officers and employees
of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to support our military troops for their service
to our country by lessening the transitional impact on City employees called to military
duty,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Bakersfield as follows:
1 . For City employees who have a minimum of one year service with
the City, the City will pay 30 days full pay followed by pay differential between military
pay and the employee's regular base pay commencing on day 31 for a maximum of 14
months differential pay while on active duty military leave.
2. For City employees who have a minimum of one year service with
the City and on approved military leave, the City will continue to pay the City's portion of
the medical premium and the employee will be responsible for their regular portion of
the premium for a maximum of 15 months differential pay while on active duty military
leave.
3. The City will update the Military Leave Policy to reflect all the above
and to meet compliance with any updated laws and regulations pertaining to military
leave. All City employees will be subject to this updated Military Leave Policy.
