A. Ad Hoc City/County Fire Services Committee Update
Joel Heinrichs gave an update on the activities of the Ad Hoc Fire Services
Committee. He indicated that good progress was being made by the Committee
and staff was working on the tier-one tasks involving coordination of field
operations, hazardous materials procedures and joint procurement. He indicated
that discussions are continuing regarding training and dispatch functions. The next
committee meeting is set for early December. Councilmember McDermott also
expressed a concern regarding the need for a future fire station in the
Riverlakes/Rosedale area.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. Graffiti - "Zero Tolerance" Policy and City and County Efforts
There was a discussion regarding the current graffiti programs operated by the City
and the County. The County indicated that costs of expanding the program were

a problem for them. City representatives indicated that Public Works Operations
Manager Joe Lozano and the City Attorney would be available to provide
information about the City's graffiti program and ordinances. County Chief
Probation Officer Larry Rhoades indicated that the County uses used paint which
only comes in two colors, gray and brown. They would like to do paint matching like
the City.
B. Fiber Optic Cable - Intergovernmental Cooperation
City Manager Alan Tandy gave a brief update on cooperative efforts by the City,
County and the Superintendent of Schools Office to provide fiber optic cable'
between the Superintendent of Schools building, County Administrative building,
the Convention Center and other facilities of the three agencies. This cable will
enable television broadcast and other communications capabilities and represents
a good example of intergovernmental cooperation and a cost-effective pooling of
resources.
Councilmember McDermott requested that there be a presentation by the City
Manager regarding the proposed Arena project at the next Intergovernmental
Relation Committee meeting set for December 5.

The meeting adjourned at 12:55 p.m.
