1. Unreinforced Masonry Building Ordinance (Jack Hardisty/Dennis Fidler)

Cathy Palla, Jim Ware, Dennis Fidler, and Mike Quon gave a status
report on how they have been working on a draft ordinance revision
to address the URM issues. They will begin meetings with the
larger group of URM building owners.
2. Amendment to Setback Ordinance (Jack Hardisdy)

a. Barbara Don Carlos and Roger McIntosh represented the Building
Industry's concerns that the increased driveway lengths would remove
buildable area from lots and be in excess of the needed space to
accommodate most cars. This would also be damaging to projects in
the works.

b. Kate Rosenlieb, Gary Ek, Jill Kleis, Mark Benjamin, Ken Hersh, and
Mark Ashley spoke in support of the Planning Commission's
recommendation. They expressed concern over undue political
influence and conflict of interest; unreasonable expectation that people
with short driveways would park close to a garage door; the unsafe
conditions for pedestrians; and low standards for development and
overcrowding.
The Committee agreed to support the Planning Commission's
recommendation and staff's adding a note to the Planning Commission
agenda that it could be amended up to 72 hours in advance of a
meeting.
3. Truck Parking in Neighborhoods (Jack Hardisty)
Continued to the next meeting.
4. Hotel Update (Alan Tandy/Jake Wager)
The City Manager reviewed his contacts with various hotel developers and
financial institutions. There are two local and one out-of-town proposals on
the table. Although they are optimistic, he recommends retaining Brown
Motel Realty for backup.
