City Manager's Conference Room
1. Graffiti
Discussion focused on proposed ordinance. Staffwill review and prepare for COuncil
meeting as soon as possible. Committee urges strong stance against the community
blight of graffiti. Citizens and County urged to continue efforts to educate
community on graffiti preVention as well as the legal consequences.
2. Smoking (Guest Mitch Van Wormer, Manager Red Lion Inn and President
of the Local Chapter, Innkeepers Association)
Members talked with Mitch Van Wormer, President of local Innkeepers Association
who indicated a smoking machine ordinance would impact the smaller "mom and
pop" businesses rather than larger hotel chains. Staff Contact with cigarette vending
machine distributors indicated a smoking ordinance would have an impact on their
business..Staff was directed to conduct a survey of vending machine distributors and
users of vending machines to get their input on the impact of a tobacco vending
machine ordinance in the city.
3. Retaining Local Control in Government
Committee report to endorse Kern Citizens for Effective Local Government
"Guiding Principles" and "Action Plan."
4. COuncil Procedures
Committee report on institution of City Manager administrative procedure to deal
with routine matters by law required to go to specific departments.
5. Campaign Contributions
To be discussed.
6. Set Next Meeting
To be determined.
