SUBJECT: NEW AND REVISED JOB SPECIFICATIONS
The following is a summary listing of those job specifications
which are newly created or have recently been revised:
NEW JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
APPROVED IN THE 1988-1989 BUDGET:
1) Assistant City Clerk
2) Assistant Superintendent (Recreation)
3) Data Entry Clerk
4) Deputy Clerk
5) Hydrographic Supervisor
6) Supervisor I (Recreation)
NEGOTIATED AS PART OF 1988 MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING:
1) Traffic Signal Technician
2) Tree Maintainer III
REVISED JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
APPROVED IN THE 1988-1989 BUDGET:
1) Budget Analyst: This position was approved with the 1988-
1989 budget. In anticipation of filling the position, the
job specification has been updated to allow junior or
seniors in college to qualify for the position, and to
reflect an updated requirement of one year's experience in
MS-DOS micro computer operation.
2) Engineer I: The Water Division received approval in the
1988-1989 budget for a new position of Engineer I. Because
the Engineer I position had not previously been assigned to
work with hydraulics and hydraulic structures, the job
specifications have been revised to reflect more
realistically the additional duties. The specification has
also been updated to require some knowledge of personal
computers.
ADDITIONAL REVISIONS: ;
3) Air Conditionin~ Technician I and II: These positions are to
become flex positions, allowing promotion from a I to a II
.on a merit basis, without examination; under normal
conditions, this promotion will occur after appointment to
the fifth salary step. Also, the desired experience level
for the Technician I was more clearl'y defined as
apprenticeship-skill level.
4) Electrical Technician I and II: These positions are to
become flex positions, allowing promotion from a I to a II
on a merit basis, without examination; under normal
conditions, this promotion will occur after appointment to
the fifth salary step. Also, the class characteristics and
typical job duties were updated substantially.
5) Sanitation Worker III: As this position no longer operates
semi-trailer equipment, the description was dropped from
examples of duties, and the licensing requirement was
reduced from valid Class I California Drivers License to
Class II.
6) Sewer Maintainer I, II and III: These specifications were
intitally revised to delete the requirement for
certification from the California Water Pollution Control
Association. In reviewing the specs, those duties which are
no longer performed by the position were deleted. For the
Sewer Maintainer II, the desirable minimum qualifications
specify the type of experience required to successfully
perform in the position.
7) Supervisor II: The California Water Pollution Control
Association certification requirement was also deleted for
this position. Concurrently, the examples of duties were
updated to include duties performed in Sewer System
Maintenance, and to include the assistance performed in
preparation of the budget.
8) Traffic Painter I, II and III: These positions are to become
flex positions, allowing promotion from a Traffic Painter I
to Traffic Painter II on a merit basis, without examination;
under normal conditions, this promotion will occur after
appointment to the fifth salary step. Concurrently, the
Examples of Duties for all positions were changed to more
accurately reflect the actual duties performed.
