EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: On an assigned shift, regulates water flow, as'directed, at heads of canals or water delivery systems; regulates weirs to transport water; regulates gates for water delivery as directed; records measurements; performs minor repairs and maintenance on structures; cuts weeds and removes trash from canals; corrects minor defects of ditches; reports major defects in canal banks and structures due to washing, erosion, etc; reports rodent activity, aquatic and other weed growth status; reports, all potential canal right-of-way encroachments, vandalism, and trespassing; keeps all measuring devices free from trash and in good operating condition; reports inoperative measuring devices; works on maintenance and construction of canal facilities; performs routine debris removal on canal facilities; operates light equipment for weed control activities; mixes weed controi formulas for spraying; and other canal related duties as required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Operates a motor grader or bulldozer for leveling and rough grading.on streets; operates a backhoe for removing concrete and rough grading; operates skiploaders loading materials in trucks, or 10-yard dump trUcks for transporting building and construction' materials; drives and operates a variety of specialized equipment such as flush trucks, vacuum street sweeper, street sweepers.for street maintenance only, concrete saw, sand spreader, 'compactor crusher, pulvi-mixer, distributor trucks and rollers on street repair, and maintenance work. Leads and coordinates the work of a group of equipment operators or laborers using light equipment on. street cleaning or maintenance, performs manual work with power tools or hand tools, and acts as crew chief or lead worker in a gang performing manual work. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- ° Orders, receives, inspects and stores automotive parts used in the repair and maintenance of a fleet of passenger vehicles or gasoline · and diesel p6wered maintenance, construction, police and fire 'equipment, together with a variety of auxiliary equipment; issues parts for the repair of engines, clutches, carburetors, fuel. injection, generators, alternators, distributors, starters, steering assemblies, front end, transmission, differentials,, drive lines, electrical systems, brake systems and hydraulic systems; issues substitute parts on the basis of knowledge of interchangability of parts; picks up parts from automotive and equipment parts suppliers; insures maintenance of minimum supply levels through visual inspection and advises superiors regarding need for purchases; keeps stock room clean and orderly; properly maintains parts, accessories and equipment in storage status; performs periodic parts inventories; reorders stock as necessary; monitors and orders fuel for underground storage tanks; and performs other duties as required. DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: , Traininq and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED; and one year of experience with computerized parts inventory including the procurement, storage, recording, and issuing of automotive or heavy equipment parts, supplies, and equipment. Knowledqe, Abilities and Skills: General knowledge of parts, equipment and materials used in general automotive repair and mechanical maintenance work; knowledge of parts and accessories for gasoline and diesel powered equipment; knowledge of automotive storekeeping and inventory methods; knowledge of purchasing procedures and practices; ability to operate a computer terminal; ability to accurately determine the parts required to repair gas and diesel powered equipment; a'bility to perform arithmetic calculations; ability to understand and · follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records and perpetual inventories; physical condition and strength sufficient to lift and move heavy objects. Work includes, laying out and drafting original plans and computing and 6hecking mathematical calculations; responsibilities focus on areas of drafting, plan checking, inspection of landscape installations; work is carried out under the general direction of the Superintendent of Parks and is reviewed by inspection of results; performs other work as required. EX3kMPLES OF DUTIES: Drafts plans, for minor park improvement projects; prepares estimates and feasibility studies; provides construction inspection and administration; consults with 'staff, commissions, and government agencies regarding development projects; keeps files of construction projects and other pertinent documents; surveys and analyzes statistical information, -systems and opinions as they apply to the Parks Division; consults with community groups to receive inpUt for capital projects; evaluates existing development t° 'review success and determine future modifications and/or improvements needed to enhance upcoming projects; attends pre- planning and Planning Commission meetings and makes recommendations regarding parks and street landscaping; prepares reports, letters, memorandums, and other written and oral communications. DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Traininq and Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school; two years experience in subprofessional engineering work in a Parks or Public Works Department, including drafting in ' e experlenc or two years of college with major courses horticulture, irrigation design, and landscaping or any equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to perform 'the required duties. Knowledqe, Abilities and Skills: Good knowledge of the methods and techniques of drafting, irrigation and landscape design as they apply to public parks and street landscape projects. Ability to prepare..accurate, legally acceptable plans from basic data and field survey notes; ability to carry out research work for park development projects; ability to make quantity calculations and prepare estimates; ability to work with others; abilitY to maintain effective working relationships.
