5. NEW BUSINESS
1. NEW BUSINESS
A. BUILDING PERMIT TECHNICIAN
B. ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I
C. HUMAN RESOURCES CLERK
The Committee reviewed the proposed job specifications for the Building Permit
Technician, Engineering Technician I, and Human Resources Clerk. Staff
explained the changes were done to reflect new expanded duties due to
additionally budgeted new positions and changes due to the use of new
technology such as computers. The Committee recommended approval of the
revised job specifications.
2. VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers could be utilized for the City Manager's Office, City Clerk's Office and
Human Resources. Volunteers should report to one centralized location,
preferably Human Resources. Other Cities have organized volunteers for such
duties as enforcement of property maintenance and handicapped parking.
It was suggested that the Volunteer Center be contacted. The Committee
emphasized the importance of evaluating each department's needs. Volunteers
could be useful in areas such as weed abatement/surveying, surveying open and
vacant buildings, abandoned vehicles identification, graffiti, etc. There should be
an organized/centralized program.
For a successful program, meaningful job descriptions are necessary. Also
important is a campaign of active public information to attract volunteers.
The Committee referred the matter to the Assistant City Manager responsible for
Human Resources to do follow-up research and to return to the Committee with
further program recommendations.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
