A RESOLUTION APPROPRIATING $20,211 ASSET
FORFEITURE FUNDS TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
OPERATING BUDGET IN THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE
PURCHASE OF TWO POLICE SERVICE DOGS, THEIR
TRAINING, NECESSARY KENNEL FACILITIES AND
EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, the use of police service dogs for protection and drug detection is part
of an approved canine program of the Bakersfield Police Department; and
WHEREAS, asset forfeiture funds generated through narcotics detection,
interdiction, suppression, and seizure are available for the purchase of police service dogs
trained in both protection and narcotics detection; and
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Police Department requires two police canines for
protection and narcotics detection, to replace a nine-year old German Shepard who is
retiring after five years of service and a three-year old German Shepard, who is being
returned to the vendor; and
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield Police Department must provide kennel facilities and
various equipment f.or these dogs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
that Twenty Thousand Two Hundred Eleven Dollars ($20,211) in asset forfeiture funds is
appropriated to the General Fund, Police Department operating budget for purchase and
training of two police service dogs, and their necessary training and kennel facilities.
