Applicant agrees that if this application is granted, applicant will idemnify
defend and hold harmless the City of Bakersfield, its agents, officers, and
employees against and from all damages, judgement, claims, demands, expenses,
costs and expenditures, and against all loss or liability which the City of
Bakersfield or such officers, agents or employees may suffer, or which may be
recoverable from or obtainable against the City of Bakersfield or such officer
agents or employees, proximately caused by, growing out of or in any way
connected with the placing, erection or maintenance of said encroachment, the
applicant further agrees to maintain the aforesaid encroachment during the
life of said encroachment or until such time that this permit is revoked
Applicant further agrees that upon the expiration of the permit for which this
application is made, if granted, or upon revocation thereof by the City
engineer, applicant will at his own cost and expense remove the same from
the public property or right of way where the same is located, and restore
said public property or right of way to the condition as nearly may be in

CHAPTER 4.7 LINE OF SIGHT REVIEW
Sec. 4.7.1
Introduction
This section is intended as a guide to the construction
and restriction of improvements in the line of sight for
vehicles entering and exiting City streets as required in
section l7.08.175 of the Municipal Code.
A standard drawing is contained at the end of the Traffic
Division of this manual illustrating the requirements of
this chapter.
Sec. 4.7.2
Uncontrolled Intersections
At all corners located on uncontrolled intersections no
obstruction to the driver's view in excess of three feet
above the adjacent gutter flowline shall be placed in a
triangular area formed by the intersecting street
curblines and a line connecting them at points 60 feet
from the intersection point.
Sec. 4.7.3
Alleys and Minor Driveways
No obstruction to sight view will be allowed within a
triangular area formed by the alley or driveway edge and
the interior siaewalk edge (the street right-of-way line
if no sidewalk exists) and a line connecting them at
points 10 feet from the intersection point.
Sec. 4.7.4 Controlled Intersections
4.7.4.l Sight distance at controlled intersections shall be based
upon a sight distance equal to design speed (S) in miles
per hour multiplied by a factor of 10. Design speeds for
various street classifications are as follows:

4.7.4.2 Corner sight distance is measured from a point on the
minor road fifteen feet from the edge of the major road
pavement, and three right of the left edge of the lane
under consideration. Said point is viewed from a height of
3. 75 feet on the minor road to a height of 4.5 feet on the
ma jor road.
4.7.4.3 The location of the object to the left is twelve feet from
the nearest edge of the major street (six feet with
parking prohibi ted). Parking is assumed to be prohibi ted
on major arterial streets.
