City of Bakersfield, its agents, officers arid employees against and from all damages, judgments, claims,
demands, expenses, costs and expenditures, and again st all loss or liability which the City of Bakersfield or
such officers, agents or employees may suffer, or which may be recoverable from, or obtainable against
the City of Bakersfield or such officers, agents or em ployees, proximately caused by, growing out of or in
any way connected with the placing, erection or main tenance of said encroachment.
Applicant further agress that upon the expiration of the permit for which this application is made,
if granted, or upon the revocation thereof by the City Council, applicant will at his own cost and expense
remove the same from the public property or right of way where the same is located, and restore said
public property or right of way to the condition as n early may be in which it was before the placing, erec-
tion, maintenance or existence en said encroachment.

Dear Mr. Graves:
Thank you for your prompt resp:mse to my letter. Further to your request
of yesterday, please find attaChed a letter containing the signatures of
ten of the fourteen residents on Gleribrea Ct. Of the four residents who
have not signed, two said that they used the gap for recreational
purposes but have no objections to its closure if it was the wish of the
rnajority~ One of the four objected mildly on the grounds that she used
the gap when her rother drops her off on Ming Avenue (stopping is illegal
on Ming Avenue). One resident was not available, but judging from the
appearance of the outside of his house and the opinion of the others on
the road, he is probably in the process of leaving the area.
Thank you for your help so far - let me know the next step.

Dear Sir:
I sp:>ke today to Mr. Darrell Groves who suggested I wri te to you. The
subject is the gap in the wall at the end of my road, Glenbrea ct., which
provides pedestrian access to Ming Avenue.
As far as I am aware, this gap in my road does not provide any
convenience of access fran or to any amenities and is only rarely used by
people out on recreational walks or bicycle rides. On the other hand,
there are several small chi Idren on the block for whan Glenbrea ct., a
cul de sac apart from the above-mentioned gap, would provide a very safe
play area. Unfortunately, we live in constant fear that one day one of
the chi Idren wi 11 run through the gap and out in front of the fast moving
traffic on Ming Avenue - with disastrous consequences.
I would like to apply for permission to close this gap - at my expense.
I understand that there is a precedent for this, provided the work is
done in a manner which is compatible with the existing masonry.
I would greatly appreciate an early resp:>nse to this request. If it will
help I would welcome the opp:>rtunity to discuss the matter further with
you or one of your staff.
