Pursuant.to the provisions of Ordinance No,3140 New Series of the City of
Bakersfield, the undersigned applies for a permit to place, erect and/or
maintain an encroachment on public property or right of way as therein defined.

The nature or description of the encroachment for which this application is
made is as follows: TO ALLOW.THE CONSTRUCTION OF (1) TWO COLUMNS AT 28TH ST.
ENTRANCE ENCROACHING 1.5' IN THE R/W AND (2) BUILDING SURFACE ELEMENTS
PROJECTING 2,5' IN THE R/W & AT ,LEAST 10' ABOVE EXISTING SIDEWALK. BOTH THE
COLUMNS & THE SURFACE ELEMENTS ARE USED TO ENHANCE THE APPEARANCE OF THE
ENTRANCE & FACADE OF THE BUILDING (SEE ATTACHED).
The location of 'the proposed encroachment is: ON THE 28TH STREET SIDE OF THE
BUILDING LOCATED AT 2801 "Hit STREET.
I Applicant agrees that if this application is granted, applicant will indemnify,
I defend and hold harmless the City of Bakersfield, its agen,ts, o'fficers and
I employees against and from-all damages, judgments, claims, demands, expenses,
I costs and expenditures, and against all loss or liability which~he City of
I Bak:ersfield or s.uch officers, agents or employees may suffer, or' which may be
I recoverable from, or obtainable against ,theCi ty of Baker'sf leld' or such
I tifficers, agents or employees, proximately caused by , growing out 01 o~ in any
way connected with the placing, erection 6r maintenance of said'encroachment,
~he applicant futher agrees to aaintain the aforesaid encroachment du~ing the
life of the said encroachment or until such tim~ that this permit is revoked.
Applicant further agrees that upon the expiration of the permi.t~ for which this
~pplication is made, if granted', or upon the revocation thereof'by the City
Ertgineer, applicant will at his' own cost and expense remove the",same from the
public prope'rty or right of way "where the same is "loc'ated, and restore said
public property or right of way to the condition as nearly may he in which it

INSFAllATION OF COLUMNS AND BUILDING FACADE WITHIN RIGHT-OF-WAY

J~,l!gineerin~ staff have reviewed. the attached encroachment permit and recommend it be approved. The permit
is to allow' the 'construction of two decorative columns that would protrude into the sidewalk area 1.5' (see
attached. sketch). There will also be an overhang that is located 10' above the sidewalk grade and will protrude
2Siritbthe right-of-way area. These projections will be on the 28th Street side of the building. Currently, there
is 16' of sidewalk along this side so that with the columns installed, there will still be 14.5' of sidewalk.
