(c) ALTERATIONS IN QUANTITY OF WORK. The prOV1S1ons of Section
4-l.03B, 4-l.03B(1), and 4-1.03B(2), of the Standard Specifications relative to
increases or decreases in the quantity of a contract ~,tem of~work when no change
in the character of the work is involved shall not apply to any contract item
of work in this proposal and the City reserves the right to increase or decrease
the quantity of any item or portion of work as may be deewed necessary or in the
best interest of the City~
(d) WORK IN CITY STREETS. All of the work shown on the plans and in-
cluded in these specifications that is located in the public streets in the City
of Bakersfield shall be done in accordance with City Ordinances regulating the
use of public streets within the City, except as otherwise ,provided herein.
The Contractor shall inform himsel~as to all regulations and require-
, ments of the ,City Engineer and Superintendent of Streets of the City of Bakers-
field and shall conduct his operations in compliance therewith.

(e) PEW4ITS AND LICENSES. The Contractor shall procure all permits
and licenses, pay all charges and fees and give all notices necessary and inci-
dental to the due and lawful prosecution of the work.
(f) OMISSIONS IN SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS. Any materials or work
mentioned in the specifications and not ,shown on the drawings or shown on t~e
drawings and not mentioned in the specifications shall be of the same effect as
if shown or mentioned in both. '

Omissions from the drawings or the specifications of the materials or
details of work which are manifestly or obviously necessary to carry out the
intent of the drawings and specifications or which are customarily furnished or
performed, shall not relieve the contractor of his responsibility for furnishing
such omitted materials or performing such omitted work; but shall be furnished
or performed as if fully shown or described in'the drawings or specifications.
(g) MATERIALS. Whenever anymat'erial is' specified by name and number
thereof, such specifications shall be deemed to be used for the purpose of facil--
itating description of the materials and establishing quality, and shall be
deemed and construed to be followed by the words "or approved equal". No sub-
stitution will be permitted other than'as described herein unless authorizedby
the Engineer before the bids are opened. AlFmaterials shall be new and the:
best of their class and kind.
(i) MAINTAINING TRAFFIC. The Contractor:shall direct and supervise
traffic as instructed by the Engineer and shall comply with the instructions and
directions relative thereto.
