The following documents pertain to the:
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
meeting of Monday, August 20, 2007
at 2:00 PM.
This isn't about the balloons. This is about our livelihood!
Sales aides aze an integral part of our business.
We all know that the economy is down.
Sales for used car dealers are down substantially this year.
We are being forced to terminate employees or to drastically reduce their hours.
Although we are in the City of Bakersfield city limits, our competition is just across the
street in many cases, on Kern County property.
Our competition is on Union Ave, Rosedale Hwy, Ming Ave, and other, Main
Bakersfield City streets! `l
. V
Cross-Sell Reports is a monthly source we receive that gives us sales date ~~
Attached is a monthly comparison from 2006 and 2007 ~\'
You can see a downward of local sales
If you proceed with enforcement of existing regulations or curtain our mazketing options,
we will be adversely impacted on being able to compete for business.
One only has to read the Bakersfield Californian, or listen to the radio, or watch the local
news to see the fierce competition from Shaffer, Delano, Taft, Porterville, and Valencia.
And this doesn't even include the Internet sites
We need your understanding and assistance. When a Bakersfield car lot loses a sale to an
out of the area company, we all lose. There are no commissions, no profits- the business
suffers. There is also no sales tax revenues- the City of Bakersfield loses.
Look at the banking industry right now. Because lending restrictions aze hampering the
economy, the federal government is stepping in to increase the availability of money.
They are helping to keep business in business.
We need your help, now. We aze not asking for anythink different as to what the past
practice has been. Instead of restricting our mazketing options, we aze asking that you
allow us to fairly compete with others in the industry.
Please consider expanding your offer to also include: ~ P~ ~~.~Z~LE'.%1~~ ~~iJ`ZG{'G~~-C"~? ;~'
Banners (metallic streamers) maybe 3 maximum /J
Balloons- maybe 1-2 per car, we do not use everyday
Banners -used caz sale /credit union banners
Temporarily Permits to be able to use other sales aids
