HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 32-77RESOLUTION NO. 32+77 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO WIDEN THE PLANZ ROAD OVERCROSSING AT 99 FREEWAY. WHEREAS, the California Highway Commission has adopted a resolution on November 26, 1957, declaring that certain section of U. S. Route 99 in the County of Kern and in the City of Bakersfield between 2.8 miles south of McKittrick Road and Minkler Spur to be a freeway; and WHEREAS, as part of this construction, a two-lane over- crossing has been constructed at Planz Road; and WHEREAS, this overcrossing was so designed and constructed to be widened whenever justified; and WHEREAS, the present alignment of the two-lane structure serves only the westbound lanes of four-lane Planz Road, thereby creating an illogical and hazardous traffic pattern; and WHEREAS, since completion of the said structure, adjacent areas have experienced rapid commercial and residential development which has necessarily generated a volume of traffic; this overcros- sing can no longer acco~fmLodate the vehicular traffic. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the CoUncil of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. That the existing structure be widened by the State to provide four full-width travel lanes. 2. That this construction be initiated at the earliest possible date. 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward two certified copies of this resolution to the State of California Department of Transportation, District 6, P. O. Box 1352, Fresno 15, California 93715. o0o ..........
