A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD ENDORSING AND COMMENDING
THE BAKERSFIELD 2000 PROJECT OF THE
GREATER BAKERSFIELD BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, the Greater Bakersfield Bicentennial Committee
has conducted a project to gather and publicize community consensus
concerning the quality of life the residents of Metropolitan Bakers-
field desire to achieve for their corf~f~unity by the year 2000; and
WHEREAS, this endeavor has been called "Bakersfield 2000";
and
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield 2000 research was conducted by
committees in the following categories: Education, Law Enforcement-
Penal-Judicial, Volunteerism, Business & Economic, Health, Politics,
Energy-Transportation-Environment, and Arts & Leisure; and
WHEREAS, this research consisted of studies of other
comparable U. S. communities, oral interviews with hundreds of
local citizens, and letters received from numerous residents; and
WHEREAS, the co~mL~ittees defined over one hundred specific
and achievable corm.unity goals which would be responsive to local
planning and initiative through co-ordination of constructive citizen
participation and support from community leaders; and
WHEREAS, the full membership of all committees, consisting
of sixty responsible and concerned citizens have prioritized from
among these many goals, the ten potentially most beneficial and
important, and have caused that these ten imperative goals be pub-
lished in a document titled, 'We The People--Bakersfield 20007'
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Bakersfield hereby endorses and co~ends the Bakersfield
2000 project and the direction it provides for the future of our
community to build a better America by building a better Bakersfield.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 25th day of October, 1976, by the follow-
ing vote:
