HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 20-76RESOLUTION NO. 20-76 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 1976, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY CERTAIN AMENDMENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD. WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield proposes to submit certain amendments to the Charter, in the manner set forth in Chapter 3, Division 2 of Title 4 (commencing with Section 34450) of the Government Code of the State of California, at a Special Municipal Election to be held in the City of Bakersfield and to be consolidated with the State of California Direct Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, the 8th day of June, 1976; and WHEREAS, the Charter revisions so proposed to be submitted are as follows: MEASURE "B" That Section 67 of the Bakersfield City Charter be amended to read as follows: Date of General Municipal Election Section 67. A General Municipal Election for the election of members of the Council shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March in each odd-numbered year commencing in the year 1977. The persons having the highest number of votes given for each office shall be elected. The members of the Council elected shall hold office until their successors are elected and qualified. MEASURE "C" That Section 67 of the Bakersfield City Charter be amended to read as follows: ....... Dates of Nominating and General Municipal Elections Section 67. A Nominating Municipal Election shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each odd- number year coumxencing in the year 1977, for the election of members of the Council. A General Municipal Election shall be held on the last Tuesday in May of each odd-numbered year coff~f~encing in the year 1977· The members of the Council elected shall hold office until their successors are elected and qualified. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. That the above-stated measures to amend the Charter of the City of Bakersfield are hereby submitted for placement on ~he ballot in proper form to be used at said Special Municipal Election. 2. That a Special Municipal Election is hereby called to be held in the City of Bakersfield on Tuesday, the 8th day of June, 1976, to be consolidated with the State of California Direct Primary Election to be held on the same day, all for the purpose of sub- mitting to the qualified electors of said City the foregoing Charter revisions. 3. If both Measures "B" and "C" are approved by a majority vote, the measure receiving the highest affirmative vote shall control. 4. That the polls shall be open in all precincts in the City from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 5.
