HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 14-76RESOLUTION NO. 14-76 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE SALARY OF MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL TO A REFERENDUM, PROVIDING FOR THE CONSOLIDATION OF SAID ELECTION WITH THE NOMINATING MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION AND THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON JUNE 8, 1976, AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO ORDER THE CONSOLIDATION OF SAID ELECTIONS. WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of Section 18 of the Charter of the City of Bakersfield, the Council of said City did, on the 8th day of March, 1976, pass and adopt Ordinance No. 2265 New Series, changing the salary of Councilmen; and WHEREAS, said Charter provides that said ordinance shall be submitted to a referendum at any municipal election. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. That a special Municipal Election is'hereby called and shall be held on the 8th day of June, 1976, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified registered electors of the City of Bakersfield a measure for the approval or rejection of the following ordinance, to wit: ORDINANCE NO. 2265 NEW SERIES AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD AMENDING SECTION 2.12.010 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE FIXING THE SALARY OF COUNCILMEN. SECTION 1. That Section 2.12.010 of Chapter 2.12 of Title 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of Bakersfield is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.12.010 Monthly Salary. The salary of Councilmen shall be three hundred dollars per month. SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall become effective upon its approval by a majority of the qualified registered electors voting thereon. o0o I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the 8th day of March, 1976, by the following vote: /S/H. That said Special Municipal Election be and the same is hereby ordered to be consolidated with the Nominating Municipal Election for the office of Mayor and the State of California Direct Primary Election and the Presidential Primary Election to be held on June 8, 1976· 3. That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern is hereby requested to make an order, pursuant to Section 23302 of the Elections Code of the State of California, consolidating the Special Municipal Election submitting ordinance changing Salary of Councilmen to Referendum C'The Referendum Election") called by the Council of the City of Bakersfield for June 8, 1976, with the State of California Direct Primary Election and Presidential Primary Election to be held on the same date. 4. That the measure shall be placed on the ballot to be used at said Special Municipal Election~nd/iS in the following words and figures, to wit: MEASURE "A" City of Bakersfield Referendum Shall Section 2.12.010 of the Bakersfield Municipal Code be amended to provide that the salary of Councilmen shall be three hundred dollars per month? Yes No 5. That within the City of Bakersfield the precincts, polling places and officers of election for said Special Municipal Referendum Election shall be the same as those for said S~ate" of California Direct Primary Election and Presidential Primary Election within the City of Bakersfield as more particularly set forth in the Notice of Election to be filed and published by the County Clerk of the County of Kern, giving notice of said elections. 6. That the Board of Superivsors of the County of Kern is hereby authorized to canvass or cause to be canvassed the returns of said Special Municipal Referendum Election, and shall certify the results of the canvass of said returns to the Council of the City of Bakersfield, who shall thereupon declare the results thereof. 7. That the polls will be open for the purpose of holding said election on said 8th day of June, 1976, between the hours of 7 A. M. and 8 P. M. 8.
