A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD REQUESTING CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY
COMMISSION'S CONSENT TO NEW PUBLIC ROAD
CONNECTIONS TO MOUNT VERNON AVENUE BY
ADDITION OF ON- AND OFF-RAMPS.
WHEREAS, the Route 178 Freeway section between '~" Street
and Mount Vernon Avenue was completed in 1967 and the section
between Mount Vernon Avenue and Oswell Street was completed in
1970; and
WHEREAS, a half interchange was constructed at Mount
Vernon Avenue which provides a westbound off-ramp and an east-
bound on-ramp on the east side of Mount Vernon Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Mount Vernon Avenue at its intersection with
the freeway is under City jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to improve traffic service
and provide more convenient access at Mount Vernon Avenue by
adding a westbound on-ramp and an eastbound off-ramp on the west
side of Mount Vernon Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the additional ramps are considered new public
road connections to the freeway and are subject to approval of
the California Highway Commission; and
WHEREAS, it is understood that approval of the additional
ramps at Mount Vernon Avenue by the Highway Commission would not
be a commitment for funding the construction of the ramps.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the Council of
the City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. That it respectfully requests the California Highway
Corf~f~ission to consent to new public road connections on the west
side of Mount Vernon Avenue by addition of an eastbound off-ramp
and a westbound on-ramp.
2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be trans-
mitted forthwith to the State of California Highway Commission.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 9th day of February, 1976, by the
following vote:
