A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD AGAINST DECRIMINALIZATION
AND MODERNIZATION OF lAWS ON MARIJUANA
AND DANGEROUS DRUGS.
WHEREAS, recognition by responsible authorities that
narcotics and dangerous drugs are a danger to the minds and bodies
of the citizens of our co~m~unities; and
WHEREAS, the use of narcotics and dangerous drugs are a
contributing factor to the increase of crime in California and the
nation; and
WHEREAS, the habit-forming effects of narcotics and dan-
gerous drugs are degrading and contribute sorrow and unhappiness
to the users and their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of those who would weaken or abolish
the laws which recognize the use and sale of drugs as illegal acts,
are actually encouraging more widespread use of drugs; and
WHEREAS, the voters of California overwhelmingly defeated
a proposition to change the laws on the possession and use of
marijuana.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield that they do hereby oppose the efforts of
those who are trying to decriminalize or liberalize existing laws
on marijuana or any other dangerous drug.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 24th day of February, 1975, by the
following vote:
