A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY-OF
BAKERSFIELD RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF
BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, on November i~ 1870, the First United Methodist
Church became the first church to be erected in the City of
Bakersfield, and
WHEREAS, said Church since its establishment has been
at its present historic location at the intersection of Truxtun
Avenue and "H" Street, and
WHEREAS, the functions of this Church have contributed
significantly to the religious and moral fiber of the community,
and
WHEREAS, the First United Methodist Church has been a
continuing source of Christian civic leadership.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield that the week of November 8, 1970, be recognized
as the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the First United Methodist
Church of Bakersfield, and we wish them Godspeed in their second
century of Christian service to the community.

I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at
a regular meeting thereof held on the 9th day of November, 1970,
by the following vote:
