A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD PERTAINING
TO THE PERSONNEL OF
THE USS FRANCIS HAMMOND DE-1067
WHEREAS, the modern anti-submarine warfare ship the
USS Francis Hammond DE-1067 will be commissioned and join the
fighting forces of the United States Navy on July 25, 1970, and
WHEREAS, the American Bluejacket is without peer and
the personnel of this ship represent the patriotism, honor,
dedication, and valor that is typical of our American fighting
forces, and
WHEREAS, the USS Francis Hammond DE-1067 has been
adopted by the Bakersfield Council of the Navy League of the
United States to support the ship's personnel in all ways
appropriate, and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Bakersfield in
patriotism and thanksgiving for the blessings that accrue to us
as a free people through command of the seas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield that this Council does hereby extend to
Commander J. E. Elmore, USN Commanding Officer, and to all
personnel of the USS Francis Hammond DE-1067 greeting from the
people of the City of Bakersfield, Godspeed in the performance
of your mission, and as a small token of our regard, respect, and
affection do we herewith bestow upon each and all of you the key
to the City of Bakersfield, symbolized by the key presented to
your Commanding Officer, with all the rights, privileges, and
honors appertaining thereto.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 20th day of July, 1970,
by the following vote:
