HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 24-70RESOLUTION NO. 24-70 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD CALLING FOR THE DEATH PENALTY OR LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR ANY ADULT TWICE CONVICTED OF SELLING NARCOTICS TO MINORS. WHEREAS, narcotic a~di'c.t~iDn~, near addiction, unlawful and erratic behavior among minors is an increasing 'problem in this city, state and nation; and WHEREAS, narcotic users under the age of twenty-one years are increasingly responsible for crimes against their fellow citizens and against themselves; and WHEREAS, it is relatively easy to secure narcotics of all forms from adult ~purveyors who make their living from this illicit traffic; and WHEREAS, many young lives are ruined or put in jeopardy each day narcotics are sold; and WHEREAS, current penalties for engaging in the sale of narcotics are not a deterrent to such crime. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Bakersfield, California goes on record as favoring the death 'penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for any adult twice convicted of selling any form of narcotics to a minor.
