A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY, OF
BAKERSFIELD PROCLAIMING JANUARY 15 AS A DAY
OF REMEMBERANCE OF THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
WHEREAS, Dr. King has been honored and highly esteemed by
black and white alike as a symbol of a courageous and non-violent
struggle in America for the rights and dignity of all the people, and;
WHEREAS, the following action would tend to give new
courage to all men and women who are concerned for the rights of
man, and new hope to the black com~f~unity, whose honored leader, Dr.
King was, and still is.
NOW, THEREOFRE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakers field that the day of January 15, be proclaimed as a day
of remembrance of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, and
at which time people should rededicate themselves to the idea of
justice, righteousness and compassion for which he stood and by
which he lived.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adoped by the Council of the City of Bakers field at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 19.th day of January, 1970, by the
following vote:
