A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD DIRECTING THE PLANNING COMMISSION
TO REPEAL AND CANCEL THE EMPIRE SQUARE
REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT; TO REPEAL AND CANCEL
THE PRELIMINARY PLAN FOR THE EMPIRE SQUARE
REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT; TO SELECT A NEW
REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT AREA WITHIN THE
DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT SURVEY AREA AS AMENDED
AND TO FORMULATE A PRELIMINARY PLAN FOR THE
REDEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW PROJECT AREA.
WHEREAS, pursuant to the California Community Redevelop-
ment Law, the City Council designated a Redevelopment Survey Area in
Downtown Bakersfield for study purposes to determine the feasibility
of redevelopment projectB°'within such area; and
WHEREAS, the City Council directed the City Planning
Commission to select the Empire Square Project area and formulate
a preliminary plan therefor, and the Planning Coff~ftission so selected
and formulated; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has now amended the Downtown
Redevelopment Survey Area to increase the area; and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Agency has concluded that
commencement of a new redevelopment project for said amended survey
area is feasible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AS
FOLLOWS:
1. The City Planning Commission is hereby directed to
repeal and cancel the Empire Square Redevelopment Project and to
repeal and cancel the Preliminary Plan for the Empire Square
Redevelopment Project.
2. This Council hereby directs the Planning Commission to
select-the boundaries for a new proposed Redevelopmerit Project from
the Downtown Redevelopment Survey Area, as amended as the new project
area is shown on the map attached hereto, marked Exhibit '~" and
made a part hereof.
3. This Council further directs the Planning Commission,
in cooperation with the Redevelopment Agency, to formulate and adopt
a preliminary plan for the redevelopment of the proposed new project
and to submit said preliminary plan to said Agency for the preparation
of an official redevelopment plan for the proposed new project.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 3rd day of April, 1972, by the following
vote:
