A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD PROVIDING FOR THE CONSOLIDATION
OF A NOMINATING MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE
OFFICE OF MAYOR WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION AND PRESIDENTIAL
PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON JUNE 6, 1972,
AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF
THE COUNTY OF KERN TO ORDER THE CONSOLIDATION
OF SAID ELECTIONS.
WHEREAS, Section 23302 of the Election's Code provides
that whenever an election called by a city for the submission of any
office to be filled is to appear upon the same ballot as that
provided for a statewide election, the city shall, at least 74 days
prior to the date of the election, file with the Board of Super-
visors, and a copy with the County Clerk, a resolution of its
governing board requesting such consolidation and setting forth the
exact form of any office to be voted upon at such election, as the
same is to appear on the ballot; and
WHEREAS, on the 20th day of March, 1972, this Council did
pass and adopt RESOLUTION NO. ]2-72 calling a nominating municipal
election to be held in the City of Bakersfield on the 6th day of
June, 1972, for the purpose of filling the office of Mayor of the
City of Bakersfield, for the full term of four years; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council that said
nominating municipal election be consolidated with the State of
California Direct Primary Election and Presidential Primary Election
to be held June 6, 1972.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
(1) That the Board of Supervisor's of the County of Kern
is 'hereby requested to make an order, pursuant to Section 23302 of
the Elections Code of the State of California, consolidating the
t'he Nominating Municipal Election called by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield for June 6, 1972, with the State of California Direct
Primary Election and Presidential Primary Election to be held on t'he
same date.
(2) That the list of candidates for the office of Mayor
of the City of Bakersfield, as the same is to appear on the ballot,
be as follows:
MAYOR
Donald M. Hart
Incumbent
James B. French
Aircraft Operator-Rancher
Donna Handy
Housewife
Scott N. Hanson
Rehabilitation Counselor
VOTE FOR ONE
(3) That within the City of Bakersfield the precincts,
polling places and officers of election for said Nominating Municipal
Election shall be the same as those provided for said State of
California Direct Primary Election and Presidential Primary Election
within said City.
(4) That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Kern
is 'hereby authorized to canvass or cause to be canvassed the returns
of said Nominating Municipal Election, and shall certify the results
of the Canvass of said returns to the Council of the City of
Bakersfield, who shall thereupon declare t'he results thereof.
(5) That the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
and file certified copies of this resolution with the Board of
Supervisors and the County Clerk of Kern County, as required by
Section 23302 of t'he Election's Code of the State of California.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 20th day of March, 1972, by the
following vote:
