A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BAKERSFIELD REAFFIRMING THE POSITION OF
THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD OPPOSING THE 14
DISTRICT PLAN.
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 33-68 of April 15, 1968
the City Council unanimously opposed the so-called 14 District
Plan, and
WHEREAS, the County Committee on School District
Organization is again bringing forth for public airing the 14
District Plan, and
WHEREAS, the 14 District Plan is inequitable to tax-
payers in the City of Bakersfield, and
WHEREAS, the 14 District Plan is inequitable in relation
to the assessed value for individual students in the three districts,
and
WHEREAS, the 14 District Plan divides the urban commu-
nity of Greater Bakersfield into three separate school districts
adversely affecting the community interest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the
City of Bakersfield, that for the same reasons as put forth in
1968, the City of Bakersfield is opposed to any type of redistricting
that would divide the Bakersfield metropolitan area, and further,
would lead to inequity for school children in the several districts
proposed by the 14 District Plan. The City reaffirms its opposition
to the 14 District Plan.
