A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD ACCEPTING, UNDER' PROTEST, THE
PROPOSED FEDERAL-AID URBAN STREET SYSTEM
FOR THE CITY URBAN AREA PORTION OF THE
BAKERSFIELDMETROPOLITAN AREA.
WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Act of 1970 directed the
establishment of a Federal-Aid Urban System for the Metropolitan
Areas; and
WHEREAS, the Federal legislation provided that routes on
the Urban System shall be selected by appropriate local officials
and the State Highway Department in cooperation wi. th each other;
and
WHEREAS, the Technical Coordinating Committee in coopera-
tion with the Division of Highways, has accepted a proposed
Federal-Aid Urban System within the 1970 Bureau of Census Urbani-
zation Limits conforming to the instructions of the Federal Highway
Administration; and
WHEREAS, the proposed routes of Federal-Aid Urban Systems
for the Bakersfield Metropolitan Area conform to the presently
established Federal functional classification system of the region;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the CITY OF BAKERSFIELD
accepts, under protest, the proposed Federal-Aid Urban System'
selected for the City portion of the Bakersfield Metropolitan Area
and any changes in the Federal-Aid Secondary System and other
Federal-Aid Systems, all as shown on the attached map, Exhibit A,
and recommends them for submission to the Federal Highway Adminis-
tration by the California Division of Highways as a temporary,
initial system.
BE'iT FURTHER RESOLVED that the CITY OF BAKERSFiELD
requests an early opportunity to revise the Federal-Aid Urban
System as well as the classification of the streets and highways
in'the Bakersfield Metropolitan Area.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at
a regular meeting thereof held on the 4th day of October, 1971,
by the following vote:
