HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 58-71RESOLUTION NO. 58-71 A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY REGARDING PUBLIC PARKING BEING MADE AVAILABLE TO ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOP- MENT OF THE. BANK OF AMERICA SITE IN DOWNTOWN BAKERSFIELD. WHEREAS, Downtown Bakersfield has been deteriorating physically and economically in recent years; and WHEREAS, the City and the Redevelo~ment Agency have been seeking ways and means of bringing about the revitalization of Downtown Bakersfield; and WHEREAS, the Bank of America owns an entire block at the northeast corner of the intersection of Chester and Truxtun Avenues in Downtown Bakersfield; and WHEREAS, the Bank of America for some time has been desirous of having a banking facility on that site, preferably in an office tower of at least 10 stories; and WHEREAS, general business conditions and the availability of financing for such development have not been favorable during the past two years; and WHEREAS, there now appears to be serious interest among developers to develop the site with such an office tower if the City and the Redevelopment Agency can provide public parking and a redevelopme~t .project to assist and encourage 'the development of the site a~d the revitalization of Downtown Bakersfield. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of B~kersfield and by the Redev~lopment Agency of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. It is the intention and desire of the City Council and the Redevelopment Agency to provide adequate public parking to serve the Bank of~America block if such block is developed with a Bank' of America banking facility i~n an office tower of at least 10 stories. 2. It is the further intention and desire of the City Council and the Redevelopment Agency that such-public parking be available to the tenants and occupants of the office tower at no more than market rates for parking in the area. 3. The City and Redevelopment Agency staff and consultants are directed and authorized to take every appropriate action in assisting and encouraging the development of such an office tower on the site. o0o ....
