HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 23-71 RESOLUTION NO. 23-71 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD URGING THE ADOPTION OF THE VALLEY ROUTE FOR RAILWAY PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN FRANCISCO. WHEREAS, the National Rail Passenger Department has under consideration and study rail passenger service between San Diego and Seattle, and WHEREAS, the Railpax plan in California provides discretionary alternate routes, one coastal and one inland, through the San Joaquin Valley. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows: 1. The San Joaquin route be selected for the following reasons: a. A San. Joaquin Valley route would serve a far greater amount of people than other suggested routes; b. Passenger service in the Valley area in all forms is lacking relative to the service afforded coastal routes; furthermore, there would be less conflict with vehicular traffic as compared with other routes; c. It is vital to the national defense in that the passenger service will aid in transporting servicemen and their families to the many inland military establishments located along the route. 2.
