RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD DECLARING THE RESULTS OF CANVASS
OF RETURNS OF NOMINATING MUNICIPAL ELECTION
FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION FOR A CHARTER AMENDMENT, MEASURE "A",
AT THE STATE DIRECT PRIMARY ELECTION HELD ON
THE 3RD DAY OF JUNE, 1980.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council does hereby find, determine,
and declare as follows:
a. That pursuant to applicable law, a Special Municipal
Election was held and conducted in said City on the 3rd day of
June, 1980; and
b. That said election was held and conducted in con-
formity with all applicable provisions of law; and
c. That said Special Municipal Election was held for
the purpose of submitting to the voters of said City the
following proposed amendment to the Charter of the City of
Bakersfield:
Shall Section 47.1 of the Charter of the
City of Bakersfield be amended to provide that the
prohibition against continuation in service of
temporary employees beyond 120 working days a year
shall not apply to temporary employees under federal
or state-funded programs?
d. That Pursuant to direction of the City Council,
the County Clerk of the County of Kern has heretofore con-
ducted a canvass of the results thereof and has filed with
said City Council a certificate relating thereto which has
been examined and is hereby accepted by this City Council.
e. That the Statement of Election Results relating
to said special election is attached hereto as Exhibit "A",
and by this reference incorporated herein.
SECTION 2. That the City Council does hereby find, determine,
and declare as follows:
a. That pursuant to applicable law, a Nominating Municipal
Election was held and conducted in said City on the 3rd day
of June, 1980 for the purpose of electing a Mayor; and
b. That said election was held and conducted in conformity
with all applicable provisions of law; and
c. That pursuant to direction of the City Council, the
County Clerk of the County of Kern has heretofore conducted
a canvass of the results thereof and has filed with said City
Council a certificate relating thereto which has been examined
and is hereby accepted by this City Council;
d. That the City Council does hereby accept the canvass
of record of said election as certified by said County Clerk
and does hereby resolve, determine, and declare the results
of said Nominating Municipal Election for Mayor as follows:

e. That the following persons have been nominated, and
are hereby determined to be, Candidates for the Office of
Mayor at the General Election to be held November 4, 1980:
Charles H. Dodge
Mary K. Shell
f. That the City Council does hereby accept the canvass
of record of said Special Municipal Election as certified by
said County Clerk and does hereby declare that 10,829 votes
were cast in favor of the adoption of said amendment and
13,716 votes were cast against adoption of said amendment and
that said amendment is hereby declared to have not carried,
passed or been adopted.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to enter
this resolution in full in the minutes of this City Council, which
entry shall constitute the City Clerk's Statement of the result
of the election.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify the adoption
of this resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 16th day of July, 1980, by the following
vote:
