A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AND SUBMIT TO THE
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN
DEVELOPMENT (HUD) A REQUEST FOR DETERMINATION
OF ELIGIBILITY OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD,
CALIFORNIA, FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT ACTION
GRANT (UDAG) FUNDS.
WHEREAS, the City Council approved and adopted on
August 14, 1972, by Ordinance No. 2033 N.S., the Redevelopment
Plan for the Downtown Bakersfield Redevelopment Project (the
Redevelopment Plan); and
WHEREAS, the City Council approved and adopted amend-
ments to the Redevelopment Plan in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1979; and
WHEREAS,. the implementation of the Redevelopment Plan is
in the vital and best interests of the City of Bakersfield and
the health, safety, and welfare of its residents; and
WHEREAS, the implementation of the Redevelopment Plan
may require the expenditure of public funds in excess of those
available to the Redevelopment Agency and the City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield, California, is
eligible to submit to HUD a Request for Determination of Eligi-
bility for Urban Development Action Grant Funds (UDAG Pre-Application);
and
WHEREAS, UDAG funds, if granted can be used to fund
economic development activities including those activities involved
in the implementation of the Redevelopment Plan; and
WHEREAS, submission of a UDAG Pre-Application does not
bind the City or Agency to any future course of action.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA, AS FOLLOWS:
The City Council hereby authorizes and directs the City
.Manager to execute and submit to HUD a UDAG Pre-Application.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a special
meeting thereof held on the 29th day of January, 1980, by the follow-
ing vote:
