A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD AUTHORIZING GRANT APPLICATION
AND EXPENDITURE OF GRANT FUNDS FOR A SELECTED
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGR/~M FOR THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the need for a more compre-
hensive traffic enforcement program throughout the City of Bakersfield;
and
WHEREAS, the City, through a Selective Traffic Enforce-
ment Program, wishes to reduce thespeed-related injury and fatal
traffic accidents, increase street and highway safety, increase the
public awareness of speed laws and traffic safety; and to apply
training materials for patrol officers in traffic safety and accident
investigation; and
WHEREAS, the City, through the California Office of Traffic
and Safety, has submitted an application for federal assistance to
implement a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Bakersfield
endorses the proposed Selective Traffic Enforcement Program as
detailed within the grant application of the Police Department of
the City of Bakersfield; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is authorized
to endorse and file a formal application for federal assistance
through the California Office of Traffic and Safety and is further
authorized to accept such funds as may be provided to the City and
shall apply such funds in conformity with the terms of the grant,
in furtherance of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Bakersfield
establishes its intent, upon termination of federal assistance
funds, to maintain the level of traffic enforcement made possible
by the receipt of those funds, with due consideration given to any
further impact that Proposition 13 may have on the State of California
and the City of Bakersfield.

I HEREBY.CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the' Council of the' City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 25th day of July, 1979, by the following
vote:
