A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING FAIR HOUSING IN THE
CITY OF BAKERSFIELD.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bakersfield
finds that any form of housing discrimination on the basis of race,
creed, sex, religion, or national origin is ethically improper; and
WHEREAS, such discrimination is prohibited by the constitu-
tion and laws of the State of California and the United States; and
WHEREAS, housing discrimination tends to create inequality,
tension, and conflict, and thereby jeopardizes the general welfare
of the residents of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
The City of Bakersfield will promote efforts in the pro-
grams operated by the City to achieve the ideals of fair housing
and furthermore will promote and support efforts by other public
and private agencies and citizen groups directed toward the follow-
ing goals:
1. Equal opportunity in the access and use of real estate;
2. Ample supply of affordable decent housing for
families of all sizes and income levels dispersed
throughout the entire community;
3. Encouragement and support of physically, economically,
and socially diversified communities throughout the
entire city;
4. Promotion of harmony among tenants, management,
owners, and the real estate industry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the City of Bakersfield declares
that all civil rights laws pertaining to housing and community
development will be affirmatively supported including Equal
Opportunity provisions of the Housing and Community Development
Act of 1974.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 31st day of January, 1979, by the
following vote:
