A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING ~A "YES" VOTE ON
PROPOSITION 3 ON MARCH 7,-1978.
WHEREAS, Kern County and California ' s economy require an
adequate supply of electrical energy for its residents, agri-businesses,
and other industries; and
WHEREAS, there are limited sources of electrical generation
available for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the San Joaquin Nuclear Project is designed to
operate on agricultural waste water without requiring Kern County
fresh water for cooling purposes; and
WHEREAS, the San Joaquin Nuclear Project will provide
additional jobs and tax benefits for Kern County; and
WHEREAS, the outcome of the March 7, 1978, Kern County
advisory election regarding the siting of a nuclear power plant will
have a profound and lasting impact on nuclear power in all of California
and the nation; and
WHEREAS, while a "yes" vote will not assure that the San
Joaquin power plant will be built, it will allow the three to four
years of the planning and permit process to continue in an orderly
manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
That the Bakersfield City Council strongly urges the
citizens of Bakersfield to vote 'Yes" on Proposition 3 on March 7,
1978.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 1st day of February, 1978, by the follow-
ing vote:
