A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD IN THE MATTER OF REGULATION OF
SMOKING IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS WHILE CITY COUNCIL
IN SESSION AND IN ELEVATOR LOCATED IN CITY HALL.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield
as follows:
1. Smoking is prohibited in the following areas within
the City Hall at 1501 Truxtun Avenue, City of Bakersfield.
(a) Elevator - the City Hall elevator which is gen-
erally used by and open to the public.
(b) The Council Chambers - while the City Council is
in session.
2. Each board, agency or commission regularly using the
Council Chambers for the holding of its regular meetings shall have
the authority to prohibit smoking in the Council Chambers while such
board, agency or commission is in session.
3. Appropriate ~'No Smoking" signs shall be posted in each
area of the City Hall where smoking is prohibited by resolution.
The City officer in charge of the building in which areas are closed
to smoking shall cause the signs to be posted and remain posted dur-
ing the times smoking is prohibited advising the public that the
respective areas are restricted as to smoking therein.
4. "Smoke" or "smoking" as used in this resolution shall
include the carrying, holding, possession or smoking of a lighted pipe,
cigar, cigarette, or the lighting of a pipe, cigar or cigarette.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed
and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular
meeting thereof held on the 14th day of December, 1977, by the follow-
ing vote:
