HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 42-82 RESOLUTION NO. 42-82 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 500. WHEREAS, current tort liability law.does not equitably assess parties based upon their degree of fault; and WHEREAS, under current tort liability law, those who are responsible by insuring that they can have the resources to provide for payment of damages due to their negligence are held liable for those who do not so insure; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 500 is a step to correct some of the inequities in current tort liability law; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 500 is essential to protect private persons, corporations, cities and other governmental entities from some of the burden of financial responsibility beyond their fault. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Bakersfield urges the legislators of the State of California to pass and adopt Senate Bill 500. o0o I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a regular meeting thereof held on the 28th day of April, 1982, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEN: BARTON, CHRISTENSEN, MEANS, PAYNE, RATTY, ROCKOFF, STRONG _NOES: COUNCILMEN: ~ ~ _ABSENT: COUNCH.
