A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO PASS A RESOLUTION
CALLING FOR A TWO-CENT ($.02) GAS TAX INCREASE.
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 was signed by the Governor of
the State of California on September 17, 1981 after overwhelming
passage by the Senate and Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 is, in effect, a statewide
three billion dollar transportation financing package for the
next five (5) years; and
WHEREAS, implementation of Senate Bill 215 will provide
funds for direct assistance for streets and roads in the City of
Bakersfield and the County of Kern; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 will not become effective
unless county boards of supervisors representing two-thirds of
the state's population pass resolutions before November 16, 1981
calling for a two-cent ($.02) gas tax increase; and
WHEREAS, the funds to be derived from the two-cent
($.02) gas tax increase will provide an important and essential
source of revenue for local governments to maintain and develop
streets and roads.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Bakersfield urges the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Kern to pass a resolution calling for a tWo-cent ($.02) gas
tax increase.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 7th day of October, 1981, by
the following vote:
