HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES NO 75-81RESOLUTION NO. 75-81 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAKERSFIELD URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF KERN TO PASS A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A TWO-CENT ($.02) GAS TAX INCREASE. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 was signed by the Governor of the State of California on September 17, 1981 after overwhelming passage by the Senate and Assembly; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 is, in effect, a statewide three billion dollar transportation financing package for the next five (5) years; and WHEREAS, implementation of Senate Bill 215 will provide funds for direct assistance for streets and roads in the City of Bakersfield and the County of Kern; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215 will not become effective unless county boards of supervisors representing two-thirds of the state's population pass resolutions before November 16, 1981 calling for a two-cent ($.02) gas tax increase; and WHEREAS, the funds to be derived from the two-cent ($.02) gas tax increase will provide an important and essential source of revenue for local governments to maintain and develop streets and roads.
