A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD SUPPORTING SENATE BILL NO. 759
AND SENATE BILL NO. 760 AMENDING THE STATE
LAWS RELATING TO PORNOGRAPHY AND THE ABATE-
MENT OF PORNOGRAPHIC MATTER.
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield believes
that pornography encourages, stimulates and promotes anti-social
behavior; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Bakersfield is con-
cerned about the increasing manufacture, sale, distribution and
exhibition of pornographic matter within the City; and
WHEREAS, a large number of residents of the City of
Bakersfield have expressed their opposition to pornography; and
WHEREAS, existing California state law has made it
difficult, expensive and often impossible for local jurisdictions
to adequately control pornography; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 759 and Senate Bill No. 760,
sponsored by Kern County District Attorney Albert M. Leddy and
introduced March 19, 1981 by Senators Stiern and Vuich, coauthored
by Assemblymen Rogers, Duffy and Wyman, will bring state laws into
conformity with federal court decisions and provide a reasonable
and equitable means of controlling pornography; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 759 and Senate Bill No. 760 are
non-partisan bills.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
That the Council of the City of Bakersfield supports the
adoption of Senate Bill No. 759 and Senate Bill No. 760; and
That the Council of the City of Bakersfield urges all
State Legislators to support Senate Bills Nos. 759 and 760.
