RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD COMMITTING THE CITY TO PURSUING
A DOWNTOWN RETAIL CENTER.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield has pursued for a number
of years the establishment of a major retail shopping center in
downtown Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, May Co., J. C. Penney's and Gottschalks have
committed themselves to the downtown Bakersfield retail center; and
WHEREAS, the Bakersfield City Council desires to show
its support for the development of a downtown retail shopping
center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Bakersfield as follows:
That the City is committed to pursuing a downtown retail
center that will include May Co., Penney's and Gottschalks, and
toward that end, requests that the staff evaluate all possible
alternatives, including further pursuit of funding through UDAG,
and further that the staff notify May Co., Penney'~skand Gottschalks
that the City is ready to provide any feasible assistance so that
they can locate in a downtown shopping mall.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was
passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Bakersfield at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 25th 'day of March, 1981, by
the following vote:
